Sustainable campaigns

All campaigns are screened in terms of sustainability. Early 2024, Maarten de Jong (who was the managing director of Oneplanetcrowd) said: “As an impact platform, all campaigns have to be ESG-compliant. In other words, they need to meet Invesdor’s ‘do no harm’ policy. But in addition to ‘no harm’, you can go a step further.”

Sustainable campaigns carry the Oneplanet label

“Campaigns that we label as ‘do good’-campaigns are given a Oneplanet label. These ventures make a direct contribution to one or more of the Sustainable Development Goals.” For example, the platform regularly offers fixed-rate bonds for solar panel fields or wind farms.

Bonds as well as equity

In summer 2024, the platforms of Invesdor had funded over 550 million euros in total. In addition to equity crowdfunding campaigns with the Oneplanet logo, Invesdor also has other types of investment opportunities.

It sometimes offers bonds that generate an interest periodically. This interest is automatically deposited into your account. It also offers convertible loans. In that case, you finance a loan with the option to have it converted into shares later. These campaigns are quite high-risk.

Usability

Invesdor is very easy to use. Ease of use is nice, but you should be aware that these are risky investments. You should read all the essential investor information carefully before making an investment.

If you decide to make an investment, you can specify the amount you will be investing. Sometimes there are restrictions, like a minimum investment. If the campaign involves shares, the investment needs to be a multiple of the value of a share, as you cannot end up with half a share. After confirming, you will need to pay for the investment. This can be done with an automated or manual online transfer.

Companies often seeking name recognition

As is usual with equity platforms, Invesdor supports every pitch on the platform. That means that most pitches are touted and consist of a lot of marketing lingo. Because of that, it is important not only to read what a company stands for, but also to understand its financial status.

Still, Invesdor is quite strict about which companies it allows. Often, startups launch campaigns not only to receive funding, but also to gain additional exposure and reputation.

Each campaign pitch contains several documents, including financial figures, possible exit strategy and how the company has been valued. These generally paint a fair and accurate picture of the company.

Returns and costs

Invesdor charges a transaction fee of 1.5 percent for equity campaigns. For interest-bearing bonds, it charges no fees to investors. All other costs of the campaign are paid for by the company requesting the financing.

Returns are very variable, partly because the risk per campaign can differ enormously. Some campaigns, of for example companies that build hydroelectric power stations, wind or solar parks, have fixed interest rates for years. But with some campaigns, you become a shareholder of relatively young startups.

The return on investment of that first group can be estimated fairly accurately. To our knowledge, the return rates on this platform are in line with the overall market. In addition to a financial return, Invesdor strives for a social and sustainable return. All project with the Oneplanet label make a direct contribution to one or more of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Safety and reliability

Invesdor is one of the biggest crowdfunding platforms in Europe. It already obtained the European Crowdfunding Service Providers Regulation (ECSPR) license. Because of that, we see it as a reliable and safe platform.

Fixed-rate bonds offer enough information to get a good idea of potential returns. If you are interested in investing in equity campaigns, you should know that these are characterized as high-risk.

Review score: 9

We rated Invesdor a 9 out of 10 in our last review, making it one of our preferred platforms. Plusses of the platform are the large range of sustainable campaigns, combined with a thorough screening process.

We see no cons to this platform. However, we still do not rate the platform a 10 because it offers many campaigns that involve a lot of risk. The platform is open about that fact, but because of the big range in campaigns, it can be difficult to get an idea of the possible returns on these projects beforehand.
