French crowdfunding grows first time in years

After two years of decline, crowdfunding in France showed signs of market growth again in 2025. Crowdfunding platforms raised 1.8 billion euros. Compared to 2024, this was an increase of 1.8 percent.

These data come from the 2025 Crowdfunding Barometer from France Fintech and Forvis Mazars. In 2024, the same researchers indicated that the French crowdfunding market raised a total of 1.7 billion euros. This was a decrease of 17.1 percent compared to a year earlier, when the market financed a total of 2.09 billion euros.

Stronger second half of the year

The total market value of 2023 was also lower than in 2022, with a 11.3 percent decline. Now, for the first time after two years, the market has grown again, although slightly. In 2025, crowdfunding platforms in France raised a total of 1.76 billion euros.

In 10 years, crowdfunding platforms in France have financed a total of 12.6 billion euros

In the first half of the year. they raised 819 million euros. The performance in the second half of the year was stronger, coming to a total of 944 million euros. Since 2015, when France Fintech first started recording French crowdfunding results, a total of 12.6 billion euros was financed.

Renewable energy sector is still growing

When looking at the separate sectors in crowdfunding, it becomes evident the renewable energy sector is still growing. It raised 358 million euros, which was an increase of 2 percent compared to 2024. The amount of campaigns financed in this sector showed even greater growth, with an increase of 31.2 percent. This came to 407 financed campaigns. It is the second-greatest sector in the market, with a share of over 20 percent.

Just like in 2024, real estate crowdfunding declined again. However, it seems to be stabilizing, as the decrease was 1,9 percent. This came to 845 million euros, and 1,004 campaigns. The amount of campaigns also decreased, as the total was still 1,139 in 2024. Its market share has also decreased slightly, to 47.9 percent. A year earlier, the market share was still 49.7 percent of the total French crowdfunding market.

‘Profound transformation of the market’

“Beyond the slight uptick in fundraising, 2025 highlights a more profound transformation of the market. The slowdown in the real estate sector serves as a reminder that crowdfunding remains sensitive to economic cycles, and that risk management is becoming a central challenge for the entire ecosystem”, said Bertrand Desportes, Partner at Forvis Mazars.

‘Campaign selectivity, transparency and quality information is more essential than ever’

“In this context, campaign selectivity, transparency, and the quality of information provided to investors are more essential than ever to build confidence and support the sector’s next phase of development.”

Similarities in the Netherlands

Earlier this month, we also wrote about crowdfunding in the Netherlands, where volumes stayed roughly similar to 2024. The market is comparatively smaller than France, with a 1.1 billion euros in raised funds in 2025. In the Netherlands, real estate crowdfunding also remains the biggest sector.
