Crowdfunding in Italy declines 14%
The Italian crowdfunding market is shrinking. In the last twelve months, the market declined 14 percent. A total of 260.65 million euros was raised through investments in crowdfunding campaigns.
It is not the only country where crowdfunding is showing a decline. For example, research earlier this year showed that the French crowdfunding sector declined 17.1 percent last year, compared to 2023. A total of 1.7 billion euros was financed through crowdfunding platforms in the country.
Decline second year in a row
Just like in France, it is the second year in a row that crowdfunding declined in Italy. Between 2023 and 2024, the market declined 5.3 percent. A new report from Osservatori Entrepreneurship & Finance shows that between July 2024 and June this year, the market declined 14 percent.
Equity crowdfunding makes up almost half of the Italian market, which is unique in Europe
According to the report, the negative trend can be seen across all sectors in the market. Equity crowdfunding still makes up almost half of it, which is unique in Europe. In most other markets, equity crowdfunding has a much smaller share.
1.57 billion euros funded in Italy since start crowdfunding
Since the beginning of crowdfunding in Italy, the market has raised a total of almost 1.57 billion euros. Currently, Italy has 42 authorized platforms. This is a slight increase from 2024, when there were still 33 platforms registered with the ECSP license. Though the market is declining, Italy is only second to France in Europe in terms of the amount of platforms.
Downward trend in Europe
While there seems to be a downward trend in many European financial markets, it is interesting that Dutch crowdfunding increased. According to research, in 2024, the market showed a 16.4 percent growth, resulting in a total of 1.3 billion euros.
