Mintos expands investment offering with individual stocks

Mintos, a Latvian investment platform best known for offering investments in loans, has added individual stocks to its offering. You can now invest in more than 4,000 US, European and other global stocks from 1 euro. The launch brings Mintos into more direct competition with online stock brokers.

Following earlier announcements that Mintos would add individual shares, the stock service is now live. Stocks join an existing range that includes peer to peer lending, business bonds, ETFs, real estate investments, crypto exchange-traded products and Smart Cash (a money market fund). The addition further broadens the options available through a single Mintos account.

Fractional shares and regular investments

At Mintos you can now buy fractional shares, allowing you to invest a small amount without paying the price of a whole share. Mintos focuses on widely traded companies in sectors including technology, financial services, healthcare and energy.

You can select stocks yourself or set up an investment plan. Mintos already offered investment plans for its loan, bond and ETF portfolios. The new stock service extends this approach to individual shares. You can automatically invest a chosen amount every week, month or quarter. You can run several plans at the same time.

The stock service also has features still in development. Mintos lists limit orders as “coming soon”. These would let you set a price at which you want to buy or sell, rather than placing an order at the available market price.

Spreads and currency conversion charges

Mintos does not charge order or custody fees for stock investing. The spread, the difference between buying and selling prices, still applies. Mintos also notes that occasional third-party costs may apply and would be communicated to investors. Stocks are priced in euros, including shares in US companies, with no additional currency conversion charges.
